We all know the struggle, don’t we? The struggle of finding the perfect gift for a loved one. It either seems they already have everything, you already gave them the perfect things last year or you simply don’t know what they could like. I want to give you a way of finding the perfect gift for basically anyone. Now let us not beat around the bush and jump right in!
NOTE: This post does not give you finished gift ideas, it does give you a way of thinking of the perfect present on your own!
Step 1
Think of what the person, you want to give a present to, likes, not what they could like in a present but what they enjoy doing in their free time. Do they love watching a certain movie/tv-show? Do they enjoy cooking or baking? Do they enjoy drawing or journaling? Do they like using make up or fine-tuning their car? Do they travel a lot? Do they play a specific kind of sport? What are their favourite animals and colors? Take notes of all things you can think of.
You can also include thinking about their work (if they have a job that differs from their hobbies and actually have a job). What do they do at work? Where do they work? Office, outside, on the go, home?
Step 2
Now think of objects you associate with their hobbies or things they might need for it. If you included their job, what objects or things are there that could make it easier or more enjoyable?
Let me give you some examples:
Person A works in an office and really enjoys drawing, travelling and is obsessed with “The Simpsons”. You could get them a fun Simpsons coffee cup for their work place (if they have a coffee machine). However because they enjoy drawing you could also get them a pencil case with a Simpson design that they could also take on travels. Something else you could get are just some good quality pencils or pens. If this person has a passion for drawing or sketching they will know to appreciate them because they can be quite expensive. Depending on which mediums they use for art you can also get them a for this form specificially designed paper or notebook (aquarell paper, sketch notebooks etc.).
Person B works from home and loves to cook, is very interested in astronomy and enjoys listening to audio books. This person could be happy about new cooking utensils like a good quality pan, a pretty spatula (maybe even a customized one) or also some good quality oil or vinager (maybe something new, like peach vinegar or garlic oil). You could also get them an audio book about different cooking techniques or some themed jewelry. Same goes for their interest in astronomy. There is a lot of astronomical themed jewelry out there. You can also get them a book about it (even if they usually don’t enjoy reading, because it is a topic they are genuinly interested in, they might enjoy it).
I know these steps are not difficult and may not seem worth mentioning but simply thinking about a person’s interest can get you a big step in the right direction! Almost every interest has some cool objects or gadgets hidden in the interet or a even a dollar store. If you do not know a person very well, the list of things you know they are interested in might be quite short, but even if you only know one thing they enjoy doing, you will probably be able to find something related.
Still don’t have a good idea? Maybe check out this post:
