All the Romance Movies You Will Ever Need

Everyone is a sucker for some good soppy romance movies every now and then, or at least we are. This is our list of the best once, that make your heart beat higher, break or put it back together.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) 1h 46min

Now guys, this movie has been one of my favourites ever since I first saw it. Starring eye candy Matthew McConaughey as Benjamin Barry and beautiful Kate Hudson as Andie Anderson, this movie does things to my heart every time I see it.

Concept: Andie is a journalist and is writing an article called “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” (inspired by her best friends dating life). For that she has to pick a random guy to date. Benjamin is working in marketing and to get the lead on a new project he has to win a bet of making a women, of his collegues choice, fall in love with him in 10 days. Now guess who they pick?

Our favourite moments:

  • Crazy Andie: When she interrupts the boys night poker game, one of the funniest scenes! Half of the boys are so confused it’s hilarious.
  • Good Andie: The bathroom scene at Benjamin parents house. If you haven’t fallen in love with him by then, you sure will after this scene! Also, he looks so good in this scene.

Our favourite quote:

“There isn’t a diamond in the room, that sparkles like a woman in love.”

Phillip Warren played by Robert Klein

The Longest Ride (2015) 2h 9min.

This is one of our favourite romance movies ever because it is really two love stories in one and they are both perfect! Also Scott Eastwood is real eyecandy in this movie!

Concept: A country boy (Scott Eastwood), who has a carreer in bullfighting and a city girl (Britt Robertson) who loves art meet, but they live in two completely different worlds. When they help an old man (Alan Alda) who has had a car accident, he tells Sophie (Britt Robertson) his love story and it in a way it brings our country boy and art girl together, even though they have their ups and downs.

Favourite Scene: To be honest, we could not decide on one scene. I thought about it but there are too many funny, beautiful, hot or sad scenes to choose one, guess you have to decide for yourself!

“Love requires sacrifice, but it’s worth it.”

Ira Levinson, played by Alan Alda

The Notebook (2004) 2h 14min.

Now this one must be a classic. But there is a reason that it’s a classic: it’s really good. Rachel McAdams as Allie and Ryan Gosling as Noah harmonize so perfectly in this movie and the story is very beautiful!

Concept: The story is read by an old man to an old woman in a nursing home from his notebook and it is about a rich girl (Rachel McAdams) and a very persistent boy (Ryan Gosling) from the working class who fall in love for a summer, but as summer ends, so does their relationship. What doesn’t ever end though are their feelings for eachother and they seem to not be able to stay away from eachother.

“Would you stop thinking about what everyone wants? Stop thinking about what I want. What he wants. What your parents want. What do you want?”

Noah Calhoun, played by Ryan Gosling

NOTE: If you cry easily watching movies, have those tissues ready!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) 1h 40min.

This movie based on the book by Jenny Han has conquered the internet by storm a few years ago along with our hearts! It is starring Lana Condor and Noah Centineo and let me tell you they are adorable together.

Concept: Lara Jean Covey wrote love letters every time she fell deeply in love but that were never meant to be sent. However, somehow they did get send and one of them, to Peter Kavinsky leads to a fake relationship between them, to make his ex girlfriend jealous and distract her sisters ex boyfriend from his own letter.

What we love about this movie:

  • The sister dynamics, their relationship is so nice and also really important to the plot
  • Kitty: she is so sassy and fun and always loosens up some serious scenes, we espcecially love the helmet scenes!
  • Chris and Lucas: They are two of LJs best friends and they are such good friends and we love them both very much!
  • LJs dad: he is such a good sweet man, although is job is quite questionable, we agree with Chris here.

Favourite scenes:

  • Romantic: There is nothing like the Hottub scene! We’re sorry, it’s the best!
  • Non-romantic: When LJ and Lucas hang out together on the ski trip. We love their friendship!

“‘Cause the more people you let into your life, the more can just walk right out.”

Lara Jean Covey, played by Lana Condor

One thing that bothers us though: Peter does not get her favourite Crunchie back from Gen! Not in the whole movie! Can he please get it back? It was her favourite and she told him not to loose it!

However, good news, if you love this movie as much as we do, there are two sequels to it!

Me before You (2016) 1h 50min.

Concept: Louisa (Emilia Clarke), who is looking for a new job because her family needs money desperateley, gets employed by a rich family to work as a career for their son who was in a terrible accident, being paralysed from the neck down. She makes it her goal to show him life is still worth living.

What we love about this movie:

  • The ladies in the bakery at the very beginning
  • all of the great actors including Sam Claflin, Emilia Clarke, Matthew Lewis and Jenna Coleman
  • her choice of style and clothing

Favourite Scene: The movie has many great moments but I think my favourite scene is their opera date, with her awesome red dress, his smugness and the way she shocks every old person in the building by biting his tag out of his collar.

Warning: You might want to keep some tissues ready!

“So this is it. You are scored on my heart, Clark. You were from the first day you walked in, with your ridiculous clothes and your bad jokes and your complete inability to ever hide a single thing you felt.”

William Traynor, played by Sam Claflin

Valentine’s Day (2010) 2h

Concept: The movie follows around different people and couples on Valentine’s Day.

In this movie I love to watch and discover how all these different people’s stories are intertwined and influence eachother. There also so many great actors: Julia Roberts, Jessica Alba, Eric Dane, Hector Elizondo, Anne Hathaway and Patrick Dempsey to just name a few. There also so many great people apart from the main characters that make the movie even better.

Favourite Scene: When Julia gets revenge on Harrison (if you watch you will find out why).

Favourite Couple: Edgar and Estelle

“There you have it, young love, full of promise, full of hope and ignorant to reality.”

Greg Gilkins, played by Matthew Walker

Dirty Dancing (1987) 1h 40min

Concept: Baby (Jennifer Grey) is a rich daugther, going on vacation to a fancy country resort with her family. There she meets Johnny (Patrick Swayze), a dancer working there who teaches her to dance so she can fill in for his partner. However maybe dancing is not all they are doing.

What we love about this movie: Freaking 60s Vibes are amazing!

Favorite Scene: Their last dance showing it to everyone!

“Nobody puts Baby in a corner!”

Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze

Beauty and the Beast (2017) 2h 19min.

I think we all know the tale of Beauty and The Beast from Disney but the newest life action remake of this fairy tale is to seriously fall in love with. Those of us who love Emma Watson from Harry Potter will not be disappointed by her acting in this movie. She is beautiful and portrays Belle just as well. Dan Stevens makes a great beast and Luke Evans as Gaston with Josh Gad as Lefou really live their role.

Favourite Scene: Gotta be cheesy here and say the montage of them becoming friends and growing closer. However I also have to mention the scene where he shows her the library of every bookworm’s dreams and their first dance in teh gorgeous ballroom.

“She warned him not to be deceived by appearance, for beauty is found within.”

The Vow (2012) 1h 40min.

This movie has always been one of my favourite movies and actually used to be my favourite of all. Channing Tatum as Leo is so handsome and keeps on losing his shirt and Rachel McAdams as Paige is so beautiful and talented.

Concept: A young married couple get into a car accident and the woman Paige (Rachel McAdams) loses her memory of their complete history together. Leo (Channing Tatum) now tries to make her fall in love with him all over again, also having to put up with her family and her ex-fiancé.

You might also note that this movie is based on a true story, which makes it even more heartbreaking!

Favourite scene: Their second first date is adorable! (You’ll know what I mean when you get there).

“I have a theory too. My theory is about moments. Moments of impact. My theory is that these moments of impact, these flashes of high intensity that completly turn our lives upside down actually end up defining who we are.”

Channing Tatum as Leo Collins

Love, Rosie (2014) 1h 42min.

I believe this one is one that not everyone has heard of and that is a shame because it is beautiful. Starring Lily Collins as Rosie and and Sam Clafin as Alex this movie tells the story of a friendship with its ups and downs, joy and disapointment and detours to love.

Things we love about this movie: Rosies father, the friendship between Rosie and Ruby, Alex’ sister commenting on his sex life

Favourite Scene: When Rosie has to take part of her bedframe when taking her daugther to her first day of school because she was cuffed to it (find out why in the movie).

“Sometimes you don’t see that the best thing that’s ever happened to you is sitting right under your nose.”

Rosie Dunne, played by Lily Collins

Stuck in Love (2012) 1h 33min.

This movie is definitely a staple when it comes to those more dramatic love stories. Overall it is great to watch if you are after a bit of drama and crisis combined with just the right amount of love and romance!

Things we love about the movie: Lily Collins (obviously) and all members of the cast! It is giving us very much „The Fault In Our Stars “- vibes, as the director is the same. But also mixing actors we recognize from other popular movies, like „Percy Jackson“ (Logan Lerman), „The Fault In Our Stars“ (Nat Wolff) and a few others.

“The most important things are the hardest to say.”
