2021 Ultimate Christmas Movie Rating

2021 is almost over and December has arrived. Just like last year I’m here to give you the ultimate review of all those christmas movies, so you get an idea about which ones will fill you up with the holiday spirit and which will just waste your precious time left of 2021.

This post will once again be updated all throughout December up until Christmas and might include some oldies as well. Let us know your opinion on the movies and drop your favourites in the comments!

Disclaimer: This post only displays my opinion on the movies and everyone’s opinions are different so you might enjoy a movie I didn’t. The order of the movies in the listing is not a ranking, it is merely the order in which I watched them!

Movies included:

  1. love hard
  2. The Claus Family
  3. The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star
  4. A Castle for Christmas
  5. Single all the Way
  6. Christmas with the Kranks
  7. Barbie in the Nutcracker
  8. David and the Elves
  9. All is Love
  10. Father Christmas is Back
  11. Three Wishes for Cinderella
  12. The Night Before
  13. A California Christmas: City Lights
  14. A naija Christmas

1. love hard (2021)

I’m not sure how to feel about this movie to be honest. It some fun scenes, but there were also some maybe cringey questionable ones. The ending was really nice! Also Nina Dobrev looked gorgeous!

Rating: 3 out of 5.

2. The Claus Family (2021)

It was a cute movie, not gonna lie. The story and the message was nice. Santas helpers were really fun and Jules sister is adorable. I enjoyed that it wasn’t American, if I dare say and that it was a Dutch Netflix Original.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

3. The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star (2021)

Really fun watch once again! Lots of funny scenes. New hot guy. Am still in love with Prince Edward. You should know though, this is more about Fiona than the other movies. We get a glimpse into her past and emotions and she gets a lot more likeable. Also their outfits are fire!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

4. A Castle for Christmas (2021)

I didn’t expect much of this movie and it was no favourite so far. It was a chill watch but I found the main characters’ love relationship dynamic kind of weird. The village is adorable though and the castle is gorgeous. Love the knitting club and Hamish the dog!

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

5. Single all the Way (2021)

When we started watching this movie, I really wasn’t sure who would end up with who, even though in a lot of love movies you just know from the start. I really enjoyed a lot of the characters in this one, especially the mom. There were funny, cute and weird scenes, but overall it was a really nice watch.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

6. Christmas with the Kranks (2004)

This movie was straight up weird, in my opinion. It had its funny moments and character lines but I didn’t enjoy the storyline that much. I don’t want to spoiler anything so I will not go into detail. The ending however was really nice and a happy one, of course, how else would it be in a christmas movie?

Rating: 2 out of 5.

7. Barbie in the Nutcracker (2001)

How could I give Barbies first ever movie a bad rating? If you enjoyed Barbie movies when you were little, then give this christmas one a rewatch and feel the nostalgia overwhelm you.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

8. David and the Elves (2021)

Have to say, that maybe this one was my least favourite so far. I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I liked that it was not another basic american story but that doesn’t make up for me not really liking the concept of the story.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

9. All is Love (2014)

This movie is basically a German remake of “Love, Actually”. The concept with a lot of different characters and finding out how they are all intertwined somehow was done nicely though. There are a lot of famous german characters and the acting was a lot better than in a lot of other German movies I know (sadly, there are a lot, which pains me as a German). It is a long movie (2 hr) but it didn’t feel as long and didn’t have useless boring scenes. I recommend.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

10. Father Christmas is Back (2021)

So the house this mainly plays in is really gorgeous, but other than that, I didn’t really enjoy this movie. Didn’t find it very funny and the characters were rather dull, I’d say. I kind of felt bad for the poor sister that planned everything and just wanted a nice christmas but then everyone was so chaotic. A happy end though so that was nice.

Rating: 1 out of 5.

11. Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973)

Because I know my two best friends, my co-blog-owner being one of them, love this movie and watch it every year, I can not say anything too bad about it. It’s a pretty old movie and I have three things to say: Rosalie the owl is adorable, the prince is kind of a douche and I would not want to date him for his character or looks and they all wear rather weird hats.

I’m sorry, I could not find a proper trailer to link, because the movie is so old.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

12. The Night Before (2015)

I feel like this is a christmas movie for men. There were some funny parts and a lot of good actors but I think men enjoy this more than women (no offense).

Rating: 2 out of 5.

13. A California Christmas: City Lights (2021)

Nice sequel to last years first part, however their relationship could be a lot better with some better communication. Also the relationship of her range manager and her best friend is rather interesting, but also kind of nice.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

14. A Naija Christmas (2021)

I liked that it was, once again, not a typical christmas movie, as you might call it. The mother is a queen, the brothers are chaotic and the love interests are sweet. Relaxing watch but I didn’t get as invested, so at times a little boring.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

These were all christmas movies we watched this year, leaving out the rewatches because I rated them in last years post already. Which movie is your favourite out of these or how many did you see?
